It's pretty amazing what a phenomenon AI is. I think the disparity in rating has a lot to do with story lines. AI contestants generally bring good story lines. On the other hand, this Winter Olympics lacked many good story lines for US athletes. Michelle Kwan didn't even compete, and Bodie Miller was a disappointment.
