Will stayed up until 3:30 this morning trying to make Janie feel better. At one point she said she was suicidal. He said not even to joke about it. [I don't think she was actually suicidal, but she was very, very upset.]
As Will crawled into bed, in the same room with James - while Janie was still outside, the last thing he said was "she's a great girl, too great, she has to go. Even though she has to go, I don't want her to be sad."
James muttered something back - I couldn't hear it - but it was James speaking so it was probably vile.
Will is such a liar. Earlier this evening Janie caught him in a couple of lies. When she questioned him about it, he just sort of repeated his answer while changing it slightly and then quickly moved on to something else about the same subject. It's a very clever way of deflecting her question, I think she noticed. The trouble is, she never remembers this sort of thing for very long. At least, not from Will.
