HGTV Design Star Season Two Now Taking Applications
Its freshman season exceeded ratings expectations and generated buzz around water coolers as fans cast their final votes for “David” or “Alice;” now HGTV Design Star has launched a second nationwide search for professional and novice designers, architects and artists who believe they have the talent, expertise and on-camera skills to host their own show on HGTV. The network will accept submissions for HGTV Design Star season two that have been
postmarked between Wednesday, October 25, 2006 and Friday, December 1, 2006; viewers can get applications, entry rules and additional information about the search by visiting

“Anyone who has ever thought, ‘I should have my own show on HGTV,’ should bring it on!” said James Bolosh, vice president, original programming, HGTV. “We expect season two of HGTV Design Star to be even bigger and better, so we want submissions from talented people who have the potential, instincts, ideas, individuality and on-camera personality to not only hold their own during the competition, but also with the top talent on our network. Last season’s winner can confirm that this is no easy feat, but the reward – a show on one of cable’s top-rated networks -- could completely change someone’s life. This is the time to take the first shot.”
By summer 2007, viewers will be able to sit back and watch the fun when HGTV Design Star season two premieres for its eight-week run. Fans can expect more devilishly clever design challenges that inspire creativity and ingenuity as well as incredible designs that feature real people, in real situations, in real homes. After a final viewer vote, one designer will be selected to host his or her own series on HGTV.
During its first season, HGTV Design Star attracted more than 24 million viewers and was the highest-rated series ever in the history of the network. Immediately after the series finale aired on Sunday, September 10, winner David Bromstad’s life as a HGTV talent began when the network’s cameras followed him around the country to shoot Making of an HGTV Design Star. The special four-episode series, premiering Thursday, November 2 at 11 p.m. ET/PT, takes viewers behind-the-scenes as Bromstad learns tips and techniques for a successful television career and prepares to shoot the pilot episode of his own show. His new show, Color Splash, is scheduled to premiere in spring 2007.
