Episode Four - Feel Better
Another episode of quality television. I really like this show.
It's ABOUT TELEVISION ... you know .. that thing that we're obsessed with. That thing that drinks up our free time like a vampire sucking the life out of us.
I can't understand why everyone isn't watching it.
well, okay ... so there are no car chases. No bullets flying. No blood being spilled and no organs being dissected and scrutinized under microscopes. No evil smoke, no polar bears on tropical isles, no doomsday machine. No suicidal, murderous or lecherous neighbors. No nubile bed-hopping interns. No daring prison escapes.
This show moves me. It makes me laugh and sometimes it makes me cry (okay, so I'm a sap). It also makes me think. Maybe that's why no one watches? No one wants to have to think about stuff on a Monday night? The show doesn't just hit you over the head with stuff; it's nuanced and layered. Maybe it's too subtle?
I admit it; I don't get excited waiting for the show to air as I do with some other programs. Maybe in time, I will.
On the other hand, when the program is over, I always feel better for having watched it and I rarely feel that satisfaction after watching other programs.
Studio 60 is the organic, home-cooked, well-balanced meal and the other programs are junk food. A quick and delicious rush, but not much substance.
